A Brief History

IEEE’s roots go back to 1884 when electricity

began to become a major influence in society.

There was one major established electrical industry,

the telegraph, which since the 1840s had come to connect

the world with a data communications system faster than the

speed of transportation. The telephone and electric power and

light industries had just gotten underway. In 1980 IEEE established the IEEE History Center to be the staff arm of the History Committee.

The Name

IEEE, pronounced "Eye-triple-E," stands for the

Instituteof Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The

associationis chartered under this name and it is the full legal

name.However, as the world's largest technical professional

association, IEEE's membership has long been composed of engineers,

scientists, and allied professionals. These include computer scientists,

software developers, information technology professionals, physicists,

medical doctors, and many others in addition to IEEE's electrical and electronics engineering core. For this reason the organization no longer goes by the full name, except on legal business documents, and is referred to simply as IEEE.

IEEE Societies

IEEE Region 8 is home to organizational units in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. In the IEEE Region 8 Committee, Sections are represented by their Chairs. Section Chairs may appoint an alternate representative to the Region 8 Committee. The 8 balls have information about Region 8 from IEEE Global, Region 8 itself and contact informations as PDF. IEEE REGION 8 SECTIONS AND SUBSECTIONS

IEEE Turkey Section is in the Region 8 consists of IEEE Turkey Student Branches located nearly 70 Turkish universities. They come together two times in a year by IEEE Turkey Presidents' Congress which is open for only the executive board of branches around winter and IEEE Turkey Student Branches and GOLD Congress at which problems of branches are discussed around summer. Every year, the organizers of these congresses change by nominations and elections. The Turkey Section is currently leading by IEEE Turkey Student Branch Representative and every society (ComSoc, CS, EMBS, PES, RAS etc.) has it's own representative. You can follow every student branch and society in social medias.

Turkey may not be a technical superpower yet, but a group of enterprising student members sees a way to change that by hardworking using IEEE resources. The IEEE is a gateway to modern engineering education, which means a lot to students who want to follow the latest technology news all around the world. Turkey is quickly advancing and trying to catch up on education standards accepted by more developed countries. It also works with Tübitak in some projects

IEEE TURKEY SECTION

ABOUT ME:

I am a fellow of IEEE Global and worked in different societies and projects in Özyeğin University Student Branch of Turkey Section in Region 8. I am getting the IEEE Spectrum, which is basically the journal of IEEE, on a regular basis for any development in technology. I also use the IEEE Xplore (Digital Library) for many reasons like projects or special interests. You can check the links below for more information about Spectrum or Xplore.

I became a member of IEEE in 2013 and since then I improved both myself and my branch. We managed to make parties, have interviews or speeches with outstanding people like Melek Pulatkonak, Yapıncak Erkan, Özgür Sinanoğlu etc. and planned panels. We also participated and make significant effects in the General Meeting of the Presidents in both 2015 and 2016 and the IEEE Turkey Section Congress 2015. After being an attendant for many Marmara Region Meetings we finally achieved to become the host in the fourth and last MRM of the year 2015. My team had an essential role for this, they recompensed their trainings. The last months of 2014 were very exhausting. After a lot of work I can proudly say that we managed to obtain an important place in the Turkey Section.

I was retired as vise-chair, responsible for the club activities in the university and head of RAS of IEEE OzU before I graduated from university.

IEEE Özyeğin University Student Branch (IEEE OzU Club)

Özyeğin University has an IEEE Club as a Student Branch in Turkey IEEE under Region 8. The list of IEEE member proffessors in Özyeğin University (Dr. Reha Civanlar, Tanju Erdem, Dr. İsmail Arı, Oğuz Sunay, Murat Uysal, Dr. Burhan Gülbahar, Ulaş Kozat, Dr. Mehmet Arık etc.) is very long. Because of the withstanding engineering professors in Özyeğin University are mostly members of IEEE Global the events that participate by OzU IEEE are mostly supported and succeed.

After it's established OzU IEEE was quiet for first couple of semesters. But after 2013 it started working as a very qualified student branch and with the help of different branches in Turkey OzU IEEE achieved it's position as one of the major student branches in Turkey.

The main purpose is creating a network and succeed in both technical and social areas. For this, the training and improvement of the members is as much important as establishing great events. You can check the social media accounts for more information.
